17th Annual 24 Hours of Allamuchy August 27-28-29, 2010

THE RULES

1. Mandatory pre-race meeting at 11:00am on Sat. for all Captains, although all racers are encouraged to attend. Each team must designate a Captain to handle all official matters including the pre-race meeting, picking up registration packets, making sure all team members have completed their appropriate paperwork, etc.

2. Each team & solo will bear responsibility for their ChampionChip transponder. In order for any laps to count, the ChampionChip transponder must be scanned by the rider at the transition zone every time a lap is completed. Loss of ChampionChip transponders will result in a time penalty and a replacement fee ($35 per chip).

3. Waiting riders must always check in with the transition official prior to starting their lap. Solo riders must check in with the transition official each time they finish a lap and before they begin their next lap.

4. If a team member wishes to do two laps in a row, for the next lap to count they must still scan in their ChampionChip transponder before they start.

5. Each team member and solo rider must complete a minimum of 1 lap. Teams will be penalized a lap for each lap not completed by each member, except in the case of an injury, which must be reported to a race official who will make the final decision.

6. If a team member cannot complete his/her lap, the team has the option of starting the lap over with a new rider. They will, however, lose the distance and time of the incomplete lap. The replacement racer must check-in with the transition official prior to beginning the lap.

7. For safety reasons, there will be no reverse riding allowed on the course!

8. Teammates may cannibalize each other's bikes or swap if necessary.

9. Riders may accept mechanical support on the course by any registered racer, but support crews can help only in the transition area or at a campsite.

10. Riders may accept food and water from anyone on the course.
11. All riders beginning a lap between 6:00pm and 6:00am will be required to have a primary AND a secondary light source. The primary light source must be at least 4 watts and secured to your bike or helmet. The secondary light source may be a flashlight, penlight or similar lighting system.

12. It is against the rules for riders to ride with their lights out to save batteries. Riders violating this rule will have their current lap nullified.

13. Come prepared with completely charged, extra batteries so you can be completely self-sufficient for 24 hours. Be sure to mark your name on your batteries & chargers. Taking someone else's battery will be grounds for disqualification of the entire team.

14. All federal, state, local and Boy Scout rules will be in effect, including:
• No firearms
• No illegal drugs
• No dogs or other pets!!!

• No generators
• Fires are allowed in existing fire pits only.
• No alcoholic beverages permitted! Your entire team will be disqualified and asked to leave the property, if you or your support crew bring alcohol! We are guests of the Boy Scouts of America and this is their mandatory rule.

15. Only riders officially entered in the event or designated as "Official Course Marshalls" may ride on the designated racecourse. No support crew members, friends, or family members may ride on any portion of the course. Violation of this rule is grounds for disqualification.

16. Each rider while racing must wear his/her race number and numberplate.

17. Wearing a buckled helmet is mandatory anytime you are on your bike on the property (not just when you are racing)!

18. All captains and solos must attend the pre-race meeting at 11:00 am on Sat.

19. Ignorance of any of these rules is not an excuse.

20. Foul riding, unsportsmanlike behavior, or the use of profane or abusive language, are grounds for warning, and/or disqualification of a team or solo rider.

21. Short cutting the course can be grounds for automatic disqualification of the entire team or solo rider. If a racer makes a mistake, and he/she reports it tothe officials before it is discovered, a time adjustment will be made rather than a DQ.

22. Racers riding bicycles have the right of way over racers pushing bicycles. When practical, racers pushing should stay on the least rideable portion of the path when being passed. Riders should say pleasantly, "Track, on your left" or “Track, on your right" when passing other riders.

23. All protests must be made by team captains to an official. Protests may be made during the event and up to 15 minutes after the final results are posted. All protests must be made in a respectful manner to an official. Officials will have the final decision on all protests.

24. Safety on the course is our primary concern. If you come across an injured rider or a potentially unsafe situation, you are encouraged to stop and assist. If you stop to give assistance for a health or safety-related reason, you may report your bib number (we suggest you write it down) to a passing rider who will turn it in to the transition officials so that your team's next rider may begin his/her lap. You must also still complete your lap and report to an official the nature of the assistance you provided and the approximate time duration of your assistance stop. You will be assigned a lap time in accord with your average lap time either during the day or night, depending on the time of day you stop to assist. All decisions regarding time adjustment will be made by the Chief Official and will be final. Adjustments will be noted on the score board as they are determined. NOTE: This rule applies ONLY to health and safety concerns. It does NOT apply to assistance with mechanical problems or repairs!

25. The Race Directors will be given the final decision regarding any occurrence at the event including those not addressed in these rules.
