SAFETY is the #1 Factor in All Event Policies and Decisions

We Are All Guests of the Boy Scouts on Private Property

PLEASE READ WITH GREAT CARE!!!....

We are guests of the Boy Scouts of America and it is a privilege for us to be able to use this land for our race. Your team, support crew and guests are considered a single unit and will be required to adhere to all rules. One individual in your group, not following the rules, could be the cause for your entire team to be disqualified and possibly evicted from the property. The following information and guidelines will help to ensure a fair and fun event for everyone.

Staging Area at Camp Somers

We have the entire Camp Somers side of the Mt. Allamuchy Boy Scout Reservation for camping. There are more than enough campsites for everyone. Campsites closest to the transition area will be reserved for solo riders.

The Camp Wheeler side of the Boy Scout Reservation will be closed and off-limits again this year.  This will simplify movement and reduce logistical complications for everyone.

Arrival and Parking, 24-Hour Shuttle Van

Parking at Mt. Allamuchy is extremely limited. We urge you to carpool! ONLY ONE VEHICLE PER TEAM IS ALLOWED PARKING ON SITE. You must check in first at Waterloo Village (see “Friday Check-In” below) to receive your packet and VEHICLE PERMIT Parking pass before being allowed into the parking area at Camp Somers.  DO NOT TRY TO DRIVE INTO THE BOY SCOUT CAMP WITHOUT OBAINING A VEHICLE PERMIT FIRST!!! Vehicle spots are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis depending on your Friday morning arrival time at the Waterloo Village Check-In Center. Camp Somers also has extended parking alongside the paved access road which leads to it (see Campsite Map).

Additional TEMPORARY (10 minute) Dropoff vehicle permits will be allocated to teams on as as-needed basis.  These secondary vehicles will be directed to park in a TEMPORARY area (to unload gear only) and then drive back off-site to the remote parking lot.

RV’s, CAMPER VANS, AND MOTOR HOMES: We only have room at Camp Somers for the few that have already registered.  No more oversized vehicle space is left on site.  Any additional such large vehicles will have ONLY ONE OPTION: parking in the WATERLOO VILLAGE parking lot and using the round-the-clock shuttle van service (or your bike, wearing your helmet) to come back up to the race site.

All campsites are within easy reach of the Staging/Transition area. NO TEAM VEHICLES OF ANY KIND ARE PERMITTED TO DRIVE BEYOND THE PARKING LOTS TO THE CAMPSITES (NOTE: Some campsites are reserved in advance for Staff, Sponsors, and Bike Patrol.  These will be clearly marked as RESERVED). After your team checks in and you receive your packets, you may drive up into the Camp Somers parking lot. There you will unload all of your gear and either park in the lot available there (only ONE vehicle per team), or drive back down to park in the WATERLOO VILLAGE PARKING LOT (with SHUTTLE VAN SERVICE back up to the campsites). Your gear will be transported to the campsite of your choice by our heavy-duty pickup trucks & crews (yes, they do take tips!). Or, you may hike it in to your campsite yourself. There are a limited number of hand-pulled wagons available for this purpose.  Some teams bring their own hand-carts or wagons.  You are encouraged to do this.

WATERLOO VILLAGE OFF-SITE PARKING LOT:  Good news!  This year once again our overflow-offsite parking lot is the same WATERLOO VILLAGE parking lot which is used Friday for Registration.  It is on Waterloo Road, just EAST of the entrance to the Boy Scout Camp, only about 1/2-mile from the actual race site.

SHUTTLE VAN SCHEDULE:

*Friday, Aug. 21:                                          11:00AM - 11:00PM

*Saturday, Aug. 22-Sunday, Aug. 23:      6:00AM Sat. – 2:00PM Sun.

Selecting Your Campsite

This is the key to a smooth and efficient arrival.  Please study our Campsite map to become familiar with the various campsites. Your selection of campsite will depend on your arrival time on Friday. Once you park in the Camp Somers parking lot, your vehicle is there for the weekend. Parking spaces are not reserved for the weekend.  If you give up your space, someone will quickly take it.  Come prepared with a first, second, and third choice of campsites, as your #1 choice may be all filled up when you get there. Most campsites will accommodate many different teams. NO TEAMS will be permitted to hold campsite spaces for later arriving teams or friends. NO TEAMS will be permitted to close access to any campsite. You are expected to be frugal with your campsite space and allow other groups to select space within the same numbered campsite.  Campsites 1, 2, 3A and 3B are reserved EXCLUSIVELY for Solo riders.

CAMPFIRES MAY BE MADE THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND ONLY IN THE EXISTING FIRE PITS!

NO TENT SETUP (other than parked vehicle pop-ups or extensions) will be permitted in the parking lot.

Friday Check-In (Aug. 21):

Know how to get to the race. View and download a map (with directions) of the area.

All Teams and riders must check in at the Waterloo Village Parking Lot on Waterloo Road, about 300 yards before (East of) the Entrance to the Mt. Allamuchy Boy Scout Camp. No vehicles will be permitted to enter the Camp without first COMPLETING the check-in process at Waterloo Village.

Juniors will not be permitted to check in or to enter the camp without a parent or legal guardian, who must then remain on site with the junior rider.

Friday Check-in begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 8:00 PM. The entire site will close shortly after 8:00PM Friday. No latecomers will be admitted later on Friday night. Get there by 8:00PM or wait until Saturday morning!!!

Typically folks arrive and start lining up before 7:00AM for the Friday morning check-in, in order to maximize their chances of getting their preferred campsite.  No one except Event Staff and Sponsors may drive up to the race site before checking in.  Our staff will arrive at 7:00AM and will issue numbered cards to each team or solo in the order they arrive at the Check-in site.  Line-up for check-in will be done based on the numbered cards.  So if you arrive early, you can take a number and then leave the site for breakfast, for a ride, or whatever.  You can return for Check-in by 9:30AM.  If ready, we may open Check-in a bit early.

Saturday Check-In (Aug. 22):

We strongly encourage you to arrive on Friday to check in and set up camp.  Check-in on Saturday will be done at the entrance to the Mt. Allamuchy Boy Scout Camp (on Saturday DO NOT go to the Waterloo Village Parking Lot in order to register or to check in). Saturday Check-in begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 10:00 AM. Pickup trucks & crews will again be available to get your gear to your campsites at this time. After 10:00 AM, YOU’RE TOO LATE!….be prepared to hike your gear to your campsite and possibly miss the START.

Campsite Locator Board

A representative from each team MUST report to RACE HQ at the Transition Area to report the Team’s campsite location (and a contact cell phone #) on the CAMPSITE LOCATOR BOARD.  This is VERY IMPORTANT in case of medical emergencies, and also so your friends and family can find you when they come to the site to visit.

24-Hour Restaurant (Lakeside Dining) Open On Site

Once again we will have a 24-hour dining service available in the Dining Hall on the Camp Somers side of the campsite. A healthy and tasty assortment of meals, snacks, and beverages will be available at reasonable prices. The restaurant will be open for business from Friday lunch through Friday dinner, then will re-open straight-through, round-the-clock, from Saturday morning breakfast through Sunday afternoon lunch.

Saturday: Mandatory Rider Meeting at 11:00 AM at Race Transition Area, Camp Somers. BE THERE!!!

*Start each lap with a complete, properly displayed set of all 3 items.

Progress Board During the Race

The progress board will be updated continuously throughout the race. ALL solos and teams’ standings will be posted on an ongoing basis. For convenience, the Progress Board will be located right next to the START/FINISH – Transition area.

Sunday: The Finish, The Awards, The Load-Out

Final riders may start their last lap at any time up until 11:59:59 AM.

The pickup trucks will be available to bring your gear down to the transition area after the last racers begin their final lap, approximately 12:15 PM.

The AWARDS PRESENTATION will be held at 2:00 PM.  Merchandise prize winners (most selected at random from the field of riders) MUST BE PRESENT (or have a representative present) to win prizes.  The only exception will be if a rider is selected for a prize who is still in the process of completing his/her final lap when their name is called.

Showers will be turned off at 3:00 PM. Please be packed up and out by 4:00 PM, when our permit expires. No one may remain on the Mt. Allamuchy Boy Scout property Sunday night.

Supplies

Bring fully charged batteries and fully charged extra batteries. Recharging facilities are VERY limited. We will have electrical outlets available throughout Camp Somers. However, those teams which will be most successful are the ones who bring enough pre-charged extra batteries so they do not have to rely on re-charging throughout the 24 Hours of Allamuchy. PRINCETON TEC, our lighting sponsor, will be featuring their new Switchback lighting system and will have some demo and some rental models available.  Most lighting rentals are done in advance (see the relevant NEWS item on our website).

REMEMBER: you must have a PRIMARY and a SECONDARY light-source before beginning any lap between 6:00PM and 6:00AM. The 6:00PM Saturday requirement is STRICTLY ENFORCED. Spot-checks will be done, and riders without both lights will be prevented from continuing on the course.  The secondary light source can be a small, hand-held light.  At 6:01PM don’t try to convince us how fast you are and that you can get another lap in before dark.  We’ll tell you the story from about 8 years ago of how the fastest rider on the course got 3 flats and blew out 2 lights ON A SINGLE LAP!  You don’t want to be out in those woods without a light source!

LABEL EVERYTHING. If you lose it you will have a better chance of having it returned.

Bring LOTS of extra clothing. It can get VERY COLD and VERY RAINY at Allamuchy, even in August!

Bring EXTRA maintenance and repair gear for your bike.

Bring extra lubrication. If conditions are muddy you’ll need lots of it.

Additional Information and Rules

*Please use the latrines and port-a-johns only.  It’s a state law.

*Any time that you are on your bike you must have your helmet on and buckled, racing or not!

*Fires can be built in existing fire pits only!  This may mean sharing a fire pit with other groups.

*Don’t forget water, food, tent, sleeping bag, flashlights, trash bags, rain gear, insect repellent, your sense of humor, loads of patience, etc. It can get very cold at night. Bring warm clothing.

*Please leave your campsite cleaner than you found it. Carry out all garbage.

*There is NO SWIMMING permitted in the pool or in the lakes.

*There are showers and bike wash stations available (see campsite map).

*NO PETS are permitted on the event site grounds or in the campsites. NO EXCEPTIONS.

*No firearms, fireworks, illegal drugs, or alcoholic beverages allowed!

*NO generators in any campsites.

*Ignorance of the rules is no excuse.

*Cell phones generally work at the site, although some cellular services work better than others.

Thank you for helping to make this a great race and a great celebration of mountain biking. Drive and ride safely.
