Aug. 23 News Flash:  2009 Race Halted Due to Extreme Weather

For the first time in the event's 16-year history, the 24 Hours of Allamuchy was stopped and ended at approximately 10.5 hours into the race. After being cursed with 6 straight years of some form of precipitation, the 2008 race was blessed with sunny, bone-dry weather. But this year Mother Nature came back with a vengeance. One of the wettest Spring-Summer combinations in recent memory had pre-saturated the trails, and so this year's course was designed to avoid the muddiest sections of the park. Rain on Friday worsened the situation, and another section of the course was removed. Saturday dawned dry, and the first 5 hours of the race went well, with the trails seeming to dry and pack down under the riders' tires. But then the skies opened again, and rain fell steadily from 5pm until past midnight. By 10pm even the elite riders were reduced to walking most of the course, and the trails were described by many riders as "goo" or "peanut butter." After conferring with experienced riders, course safety monitors, and the Mountain Bike Patrol medical support team, the race directors made the decision to cut the event short in the interests of preservation of the trails and safety of the riders.

Results in all competitive categories were compiled for the abbreviated version of the race and will be posted soon.

NEW THIS YEAR:  SOLO TEAM DIVISIONS

(Yes, you read that right!)

For the first time ever in a 24-Hour mountain bike race, we'll be adding new SOLO TEAM racing divisions. You can now race as a solo and as a member of a team. Here's how it works: Any 3 solo riders can make up a Solo Team. Ride the race as Solos, and then add together the total number of laps of your 3 riders at the end. All riders just enter in the SOLO division (no separate advance "team" registration necessary) and declare your Solo Team name and riders on site at race check-in, prior to 10:00AM on Saturday of race weekend. We will have 3-person Solo Team categories in Men's, Women's, and Mixed divisions (any combination of Men/Women in the Mixed division). All Solo riders who declare themselves on a Solo Team will also remain eligible for their own Solo Division awards categories.
